Maeve Orlowski-Scherer

Biography

Maeve Orlowski-Scherer hails from New Brunswick, New Jersey, where she grew up with her two brothers, her grandmother, her parents, and her Maltese-mix, Buster. Growing up, she loved visiting the Marianists in Cape May and witnessing their dedication to living out the gospel. Maeve earned her bachelor’s degree in religious studies from Smith College. There, she had the opportunity to intern for America Magazine where she learned the intricacies of publishing and proofreading. Following Smith, Maeve relocated to the Midwest to study at the University of Chicago, where she earned her master of divinity in 2024. While living on the south side, Maeve became interested in communal living and deeply involved in the cooperative housing movement. To that end, she moved to Bloomington, Indiana, to join the Catholic Worker Movement and share life with some of her community’s most vulnerable. Maeve has studied in Shanghai, St. Petersburg, and Istanbul, and says she has been lucky to travel extensively throughout her life. No matter where she is though, Maeve says her vocation is to walk with others and to meet them where they are with love.
