As the cornerstone of the residential system at Notre Dame, rectors are prepared to assume the roles of Pastoral Leader, Community Builder, University Resource, and Chief Administrator through a variety of training and development. Rooted in our Holy Cross values and traditions, rectors receive guidance and information on staff supervision, student development, and emergency response to name just a few areas.
New rectors receive comprehensive training at the beginning of the academic year and throughout the year at regular intervals. All rectors participate in ongoing training, optional workshops and opportunities within Residential Life and throughout the Division of Student Affairs and the University. In addition, regional and national conferences experiences are available each year.
We are committed to training and developing rectors in all areas to best serve our students and to offering numerous opportunities to expand knowledge and interests.
"Opportunities for my professional development through education and experience have been and remain a significant priority. The Rector job offers the flexibility to do life-giving work with my students and advance my education. Between my second and third year, I completed an online certificate in Restorative Justice through the University of San Diego. With this certificate, I've implemented practices and resources for my residents and the broader Notre Dame community.
Rectors also have the chance to work and get paid in areas they are interested in through second appointments. From my appointments, I've worked with campus partners in Student Affairs and the Office of Institutional Equity. Notre Dame has supported not only my professional endeavors but also my spiritual ones. With my professional development funds, I was able to attend a three-day retreat in Colorado over the summer. Notre Dame prioritizes their staff's education, both of the mind and the heart. As a Rector and young professional, I am grateful to work at an institution that truly cares and values my professional development."
