Community of Support
Our rector community is made of 32 men and women who come from many different places, careers and vocational states. It is a community of faith, laughter, and unending support, all focused on caring for our students and one another.
What About Community?
"Here at Notre Dame they call it family, well it truly is. I am now part of not only the ND family, but the Hall Family, the Family of rectors, and the Holy Cross Family. "
--Rick Mazzei, Rector, O'Neill Hall
Rick, former rector of Fisher Hall and current rector of O'Neill Hall, offers this reflection on first joining the rector community in 2014:
"One fear I did have was leaving family and friends, and starting over, knowing pretty much no one. Would I find support, a new family, a new group of friends? Thank God the answer was yes and it was easy. Here at Notre Dame they call it family, well it truly is. I am now part of not only the ND family, but the Fisher Hall Family, the Family of rectors, and the Holy Cross Family. The eight wonderful people that are in the rector Class of 2014-2015 with me are now my dear friends. We dine together, go out out together, simply put we enjoy being with each other. At Notre Dame there are 29 rectors, the veterans have made me feel most welcome. From weekly rector Dinners, to going to sporting events together, to simply just sitting around and chatting there is a bond of true friendship. The Congregation of Holy Cross has welcomed me into their ministry, and even into their home. They go out of their way to make me feel a true part of their mission here at ND. The support of my mentor rector Father Ron, and of the entire Student Affairs staff is beyond words. There is nothing I cannot go and ask about, that I will not find an answer too. Yes, I am rector of Fisher Hall one of 29 beautiful communities here at ND all different, but in some ways all the same. Fisher is my home, thank God the men and women, my colleagues, are now also my friends."
